The Job Order Kickoff

What To Have Ready

A vague req does not fail slowly. It fails expensively, three candidates in, when everyone realizes they were solving different problems.

Have these answers before the call

  • Compensation range, including bonus structure, vehicle, per diem, and anything else in the package
  • Reporting line — who this person reports to, and who reports to them
  • Project detail — what they will actually be building, sector, size, delivery method
  • Why the seat is open — growth, backfill, or a role that has turned over more than once
  • Location reality — site-based, office, hybrid, travel percentage, relocation support
  • Interview process — how many rounds, who is involved, how fast you can move
  • Your deal breakers, and separately, your nice-to-haves

The questions we will ask that most people have not considered

  • Who is the best person currently doing this job at your company, and what makes them good?
  • What has the last candidate you rejected been rejected for?
  • If a candidate is strong but light on one requirement, which requirement can flex?
  • What will a candidate ask about your company that you would rather they did not?

That last question matters

Whatever the answer is, the candidate will find out. Better we handle it in the first conversation than lose them in week three.

Talk It Through

If you are opening a role in power, commercial construction, or mission-critical infrastructure, a 15-minute call will tell you what the market looks like for it — whether or not you use us.
